  • Types of Porta Potties
Types of Porta Potties May 22, 2023
Portable toilets, also known as porta potties, porta johns, and other more colorful names, are a staple of sports events, music festivals, and outdoor festivities. They aren’t a new invention, with the first ones coming out in the 1800s. The first true porta potties were used in shipbuilding yards for dock workers who would otherwise have to walk off site to use the bathroom. Today, porta potties are used in places where public toilets are not available. Since their inception, portable toilets have changed a lot. In the past, there weren’t very many types of portable toilets. Now, we have a wide variety of porta potties that you might have seen in various places. In this article, we’ll go over the different types of portable toilets and how they are used. Different Types of Portable Toilets Single Stall Portable Toilets: the most common type When you think “porta potty”, you probably think of a single stall portable toilet. These are the most common type of portable toilets found today, and usually look like a large box with a door. Inside, you generally find a toilet, with a hole that leads to a holding tank. Single stall units may sometimes have urinals inside. Other common features include a toilet seat, a hand washing area, and a locking latch on the door. Some single stall units are ADA-compliant, making them accessible for wheelchair users, however others may be a bit more difficult for wheelchair uses to use and are thus not ADA compliant. Double Stall Portable Toilets Double stall units are a bit less common than their single stall counterparts, but they are still used for many different situations. Double stall portable toilets are most common at small events such as weddings, outdoor company functions, open houses, and other similar events. The reason people would use a double stall portable toilet is to allow for a men’s and women’s section, but without having to rent two separate units. For this reason, double stall units are usually more expensive than a single stall unit but overall, the cost may be lower. Restroom Trailers These units are a direct upgrade from a typical porta potty, mainly because they tend to feature more amenities and a lot more room. If you’re looking to provide your guests with a much more comfortable and spacious restroom experience, a restroom trailer is your best bet. On the flip side, restroom trailers are much more expensive than typical single stall units. Most people who rent them place great importance on their restroom experience. Urinal Only Units These units are not typically used on job sites, but tend to be used at festivals or events where there is a large amount of alcohol consumption. Urinal only units are meant to help reduce traffic toward typical porta potties by allowing men to urinate at a separate station. Urinal only portable toilets usually come 4 urinals to a unit. For most situations, though, you’re better off getting a single stall unit. High Rise Portable Toilets Construction workers who are suspended hundreds of feet in the air working on unfinished buildings still need to use the restroom, but might not have one available. For this purpose, high rise portable toilets can be lifted via crane to provide relief to these workers. It’s much more sanitary than the alternatives!
  • Frame Tent vs Pole Tent
Frame Tent vs Pole Tent May 16, 2023
Frame tents are more expensive, but they’re also more durable and offer more stability in windy conditions. Pole tents are less expensive and easier to set up, but they’re not as sturdy and can be more difficult to keep in place in windy weather. But there is a lot more to it than that. In this article, we’re going to discuss the differences between these two types of tents. Whichever type of tent you choose, make sure you take the time to set it up properly so your event goes off without a hitch. Types of commercial tents There are two main types of commercial tents: frame tents and pole tents. Frame tents are supported by an aluminum or steel frame, and they don’t require stakes or Guy lines to be set up. Pole tents, on the other hand, are supported by wooden or aluminum poles, and they need to be staked or guyed into place. Frame tents are more expensive than pole tents, but they’re also more versatile and easier to set up. Pole tents are more traditional and have a more ‘rustic’ look, so they’re often chosen for weddings and other special events. Both types of tents have their own advantages, so it’s important to choose the right one for your needs. The pole tent The pole tent preceded the frame tent in terms of the period of the invention. It is one of the earliest forms of commercial tents available. The key structural difference between a frame tent and a pole tent is how they carry out their load-bearing. A pole tent has one or more internal center tent poles that assist in load-bearing. Think of these poles as the columns you see in a brick-and-mortar building. Appearance Because of the center poles, a traditional pole tent tends to have the appearance of peaks and when you walk inside the commercial tent you will find center poles sprinkled throughout the tent. Pole tents have a graceful look that makes them ideal for weddings. pole tents differ in style Set up Because of the structure of the pole tent, its stability can only be fully realized if stakes are driven through the vertical poles and into the ground. A pole tent cannot safely bear its load without this additional anchoring. Now, as we had mentioned before, the primary advantage of commercial tents is that they should leave a very small footprint on the venue in which they have been set up. Since pole tents require staking it means that they can only be set up in venues that have grass on them. Stability The stability of a pole tent as a commercial tent is highly dependent on the additional anchoring that you get by staking it to the ground. There is a significant disadvantage to this because during very heavy rainfall the ground will become saturated with water and the stakes will definitely come loose. So a pole tent would not be our first choice if you expect very heavy rainfall. Pole tents should also not be used on hard surfaces like concrete or paving. Even if the weather is good and we do not require staking, the pole tent is inherently unstable without this additional anchoring the tent can tip over under the force of strong winds. Frame tents The frame tent is a type of commercial tent that does its entire load-bearing on the vertical poles that run along the circumference of the tent. Think of the vertical poles as a sort of exoskeleton. In this type of commercial tent, there is no need for internal or center poles for additional load-bearing support. Appearance The frame tents tend to have a more geometric shape because of their design. As commercial tents, they are ideal for more formal occasions such as trade shows. The benefit of not having internal central poles is that there is a clear line of sight from any corner of the tent to the front of the tent. There are no obstructions from any point of the tent which makes this commercial tent ideal for events such as weddings so that all your guests can have a clear view and don’t have to crane their necks around central poles. The frame tent is an ideal commercial and party tent because it offers optimal space usage. With a clear open and unobstructed space, you can make the most of a small tent rather than hiring a larger pole tent to compensate for the obstructions caused by the central poles. Set up The process of setting up a frame tent is simpler and faster than that of setting up a pole tent. If the design is a high-peak frame tent, it may be more difficult. The design of this commercial tent is more modern and modular. The tents are available in standard sizes that can be quickly and easily joined together to make a larger space as the situation requires. Frame tents do not require additional stakes into the ground for stability. They are very safe and can withstand strong winds and heavy rainfall. They can also be set up on any kind of surface whether it is soft or hard without doing any damage to the surface because as we just mentioned they do not require staking. So this type of commercial tent leaves you with more options when it comes to venues. You are not restricted to soft surfaces as is the case with pole tents. The frame tent is more versatile as a commercial tent than a pole tent. But surprisingly, the pole tent still remains very popular because it is far more aesthetically pleasing than the frame tent. You will find the pole tent in functions like weddings because of its beautiful and graceful curves and peaks. Center pole tents are especially considered for big events because it fits those party tent styles. If you’re not sure which type of tent is right for you, contact Topindus group. We’ll be happy to walk you through the pros and cons of each type of tent, especially frame tent vs pole tent, and help you choose the perfect option for your needs.

  • How do portable toilets work?
How do portable toilets work? Apr 24, 2023
Portable toilets work by flushing water from a hidden water tank, that’s fitted inside the toilet, or it uses toilet chemicals from the holding tank. As portable toilets don’t need to be connected to the mains, the toilet will hold all its waste and liquids. The waste is then carried away to a tank that’s secured underneath the cabin and eventually broken down by chemicals within the tank. Toilets. We can’t live without them, and when we need them most, we’re scrambling around looking for the closest one! Thankfully, whether you’re attending an event or working on a construction site, toilets are a must, and in most cases, a legal requirement. So, next time you’re queuing up to use the loo, remember this handy guide on how portable toilets work to spark up an unlikely conversation. What are the technical components of a portable toilet? Interestingly, Portable toilets are made up of four main components, which are: Toilet Seat Holding Tank Flushing Mechanism Pressure System Let’s dive a bit deeper into each component. Toilet Seat We don’t need to explain this one. However, we do recommend closing the lid after use! Holding Tank The holding tank of a portable toilet is exactly what it says on tin! It holds all the waste and is placed underneath the seat of the portable toilet, it also holds chemicals inside that help to break down any solid waste, eradicate germs and get rid of any bad smells that may be in the holding tank. Flushing Mechanism The flushing mechanism within the portable toilet is simply the process after you flush away your waste. Portable toilets either flush through toilet chemicals or water from a tank. Pressure System The pressure system works alongside the flushing mechanism to support the waste being moved into the tank, where pressure is created that circulates the water or chemicals through the pipe of the portable toilet and into the holding tank. What happens to the waste? A lot of people who use portable toilets are unaware of what happens to the waste inside. The waste will be emptied by the company that you’re renting your portable toilets from, and the process should be done on a weekly basis on your construction site, and in some cases on a daily basis for large events to prevent waste from overflowing. Your hire company will extract the waste from an output hole by using a large vacuum to suck out all the waste. The waste will be transferred into a separate tank to be exported to an Environment Agency Waste site. Don’t stop here, find out more about our portable toilet servicing. What type of portable toilets are there? When looking at portable toilets, you may not understand the difference between the various portable toilet options that are out there. • Best Types of tents for Outdoor Weddings
Best Types of tents for Outdoor Weddings Apr 07, 2023
Wedding planning is such an exciting experience. There are so many things to consider––all of the details, both big and small, matter. If you are planning to host an outdoor wedding, there are many technicalities to consider. Some important details you’ll need to make decisions about include what types of food and drink to serve guests, how to arrange tables and chairs, and how to weatherproof your event. One way you can weatherproof your event is by renting a tent for your special day. Tents offer both an indoor and outdoor experience. One of the best parts of an event in a tent is that no matter what the weather is, you and your guests are protected. Tents are versatile in every way, and can easily be customized. For weddings, there are three types of tents that are best suited for any kind of ceremony and reception. Clear top tents If it’s not clear from the name alone, clear top tents let in the most natural light. The poles hold up a sheer top, allowing guests to sit in the sunshine or under the stars. During the day, especially if it’s sunny, additional lighting probably won’t be needed since the sun can filter through the sheer top. At night, the clear top reflects the light from within the tent, creating a magical oasis, perfect for any reception. If you’re looking for a location that aligns with a natural or earthy wedding theme, a clear top tent might be right for you. Century pole tents One of the more classical types of tents is the century pole tent. With three high peaks, century pole tents are impressive and graceful. The peaks seem to defy gravity and are beautiful to look at from both inside and out. The impressive height of the peaks creates a sense of space within the tent, expanding it and adding a sense of grandeur. Century pole tents are a great option for weddings with more traditional design and decor. Sailcloth tents If clear top and century pole tents aren’t your style, then you may want to consider sailcloth tents. A lightweight canvas that is translucent makes up the tent, allowing natural light to trickle in through the top, supplementing any other lighting and brightening the tent. Like century pole and clear top tents, sailcloth tents are extremely versatile. For a wedding with a rustic, whimsical or vintage aesthetic, a sailcloth tent would be a great complement to the decor.
  • Do You Know The Advantages of the Flat Pack Container House
Do You Know The Advantages of the Flat Pack Container House Apr 03, 2023
Shipping containers allow businesses and individuals around the world to store, move and otherwise manage their goods and belongings securely. Standard shipping containersare designed to be fairly modular, highly portable and robustly secure, making them a great fit for most item-handling purposes. However, some projects request far greater flexibility than a normal shipping container can provide. Flat pack shipping containers can help when standard storage containers become too cumbersome to use. The five major advantages that flat pack shipping containers bring to the table are covered below in detail to help you decide if they can meet your requirements: 1. Highly Portable These types of containers are extremely easy to handle. Although flat pack shipping containers are not necessarily designed to meet ISO international shipping standards, they are still exceptionally strong and sturdy once assembled. However, they weigh substantially less overall. This makes flat pack containers a great option for building sites and terrain with low weight tolerances. Flat pack containers come disassembled as parts that can later be put together in the place you want them. This makes it possible to take flat pack containers to sites that are otherwise inaccessible by the types of vehicles needed to deliver standard shipping containers. Owing to their ability to be broken down for transport, flat pack containers take up considerably less space while in transit. This translates to significantly reduced transportation fees and drastically improved flexibility in delivery choices. You can potentially deliver a small flat pack container to its destination using your own utility vehicle as the disassembled parts are usually reasonably sized to improve portability. 2. Easy to Assemble Putting a flat pack container together can take as little as an hour for two people to complete, depending on its assembled size. Placing your flat pack container's parts as close to its intended build site as possible can help you to put it together even faster. The actual assembly process involves first erecting the frame of the container and then slotting the panels in place for the container's walls and ceiling. Bolts join the container's frame and panels together to form a sturdy structure capable of standing up to the elements and protecting whatever you choose to keep inside. 3. Very Versatile Thanks to their inherent simplicity where transportation, assembly and utility are concerned, flat pack containers can be produced for a wide variety of purposes. The walls and fittings can be designed to better fit housing needs, combined structures and more. Flat pack containers can be joined to form much larger structures and compounds fit for long-term storage and housing purposes. The modularity of each individual container makes it possible to develop large structural designs of considerable complexity relatively easily. Linking kits can even make it possible to join multiple flat pack containers into a single unit, allowing you to make use of large spaces where full-sized container delivery is not possible. 4. Easy to Take Apart Ease of assembly takes center stage with flat pack containers, but ease of disassembly is just as important and useful. The same simple construction process you must follow to put your flat pack container together can be followed in reverse to disassemble it and prepare it for extraction from its current location. This simplifies the process of cleaning up temporary installations once work on a construction site has been completed and can come in handy for many other scenarios as well. 5. Works for Both Commercial and Domestic Projects Businesses looking to provide quick, stable and effective housing for multiple on-site laborers can turn to the use of flat pack containers to do so. These types of containers work very well for such projects, owing to their lower price points and standardised dimensions. Flat pack containers also grant organizations the freedom to configure and then reconfigure structural layouts on the fly. This makes it much easier for complex, dynamic project requirements to be met without much hassle or manpower. When used by businesses as secure, extendable storage solutions, these types of containers make it possible to keep storage structures on site, yet broken down and kept out of the way when not in use. For domestic users, flat pack containers offer both short-term and long-term utility for multiple purposes. Used as domestic storage space, these containers can be assembled quickly in a favorable position, serving the same purpose as a shed in your backyard or even functioning as an extension for your garage. These containers can also be transported once they have been filled up, making moving projects a possibility at far less expense than full-sized ISO-configuration shipping containers. Flat pack shipping containers differ quite a bit from standard storage containers, but they offer many of the same benefits to those who use them, with the added bonuses of extended portability and heightened adaptability. If you or your business are considering going the flat pack route with your next project, reach out to our team here at Topindus to learn how we can help.
  • Portable Toilet Maintenance Tips When You Need Your Rental For Several Days
Portable Toilet Maintenance Tips When You Need Your Rental For Several Days Mar 30, 2023
Portable toilets give you the opporutnity to provide attendees or guests with a toilet throughout your event. However, they are designed for 24 hours of use; then, they need to be sanitized and emptied. When your event runs over the 24-hour period, you want to keep the washrooms clean. More so, when your event runs long term, such as a week or even an entire season, you need to take extra steps to prevent smells, keep them sanitized, and stay up to code. No matter how long you have a portable restroom in use, you can keep it clean and fresh for weeks or months by doing the following: Utilize Cleaning Tablets – A cleaning tablet can be dropped at the bottom of a portable toilet. While the tablet will not clean it, it will keep away the odours and prevent germs from spreading inside your portable bathroom. Also, it gives the scent of freshness, which encourages people to use your portable toilets. Stock Supplies – To keep your portable toilet in operation, you need to ensure it is well stocked. That means keeping an eye on toilet paper, hand sanitizer levels, and air freshener. Give Them Air – Portable toilets need air to refresh. If you can, leave the door open and give it some air, because being closed and in the sunlight can make odours worse than they really are. Use air freshener, cleaning tablets, and keep the doors open when you can to keep smells at bay. Try to find a time when your potable toilets are not in use so that you can air them out appropriately. Sanitize the Vulnerable Points – One of the most overlooked portable toilet maintenance tips is sanitizing the most touched points. Certain areas of the toilet are used more than others; therefore, you want to sanitize these areas. Naturally, the company you used for your porta potty rental in Cold Lake should clean and sanitize, but you can follow up too by cleaning handles, dispensers, and toilet paper holders. Keeping your portable toilet up to par and making sure that you have adequate restrooms for your guests is not easy. Luckily, when you follow these portable toilet maintenance tips and combine them with a pumping service regularly, you have toilets that are ready to use no matter how long you have them out.
  • What is a Stage Truss?
What is a Stage Truss? Mar 24, 2023
A stage truss is a piece of stage equipment which is designed to support lighting, screens, and other accessories. Stage trusses may be permanently installed, as in a theater with a trusswork system suspended from the ceiling, or they may be movable. Stage trusses are used in a variety of settings, from public parks used for concert series to opera houses, and they are constructed by a number of different companies, several of which are capable of fabricating custom trusses for specific applications. Classically, a stage truss takes the form of a box truss, which may be welded or bolted to other trusses to create a stand, or may be designed to be suspended from rigging in a building used for performances. The structural elements of the stage truss can be used as attachment points for lighting instruments, pulleys for moving performers or scenery, special effects devices like bubble makers, and monitors or screens. Stage trusses also commonly provide support for the extensive wiring and cabling used in performance, from wiring associated with individual lights on a stage truss to microphone cord. Also known as lighting racks, stage trusses are sometimes visible in the performance. People who attend outdoor concerts may have noted stage trusses over the stage and along the side of the stage, and the design of indoor venues may also allow patrons to see the trusses. These devices are usually installed with redundant safety precautions to reduce the risk of an accident caused by a falling or improperly secured truss. Since stage trusses may need to bear a great deal of weight, safety is important at the time of installation. Portable truss systems are often available for rental. A portable stage truss can be used for tasks such as setting up racks of lighting at an outdoor party, supporting a tent for a backyard wedding, or providing structural support for a booth at a trade show. Companies which specialize in events often keep a number of portable trusses in their stock and they take care of installation on site. The truss will usually have a load rating which should be carefully noted. For people and organizations who have a routine need for a stage truss, companies which manufacture theatrical equipment can be good sources for new and used trusses. Used trusses are often a great choice, because they are less expensive than new trusses and they have usually been well maintained, so they are in good shape. If a custom size or configuration is needed, the manufacturer may charge extra for custom fabrication, especially if none of its standard components will fit.
